PIPPI a Finalist for the Amparo Poch Awards, October 2020
The PIPPI Project has been selected as a finalist in the I Call for the Amparo Poch Awards for Public Procurement of Health Innovation in the category of: Best public procurement initiative in health innovation 2019!
Team members from Vall d’Hebron will present the project at the II Innovative Public Procurement Congress on 25 October in Zaragoza, Spain.
The winner will be announced on the same day.
More about the Amparo Poch Awards
These awards recognize the efforts of public institutions to implement the use of Public Procurement of Innovation in the field of health care. The aim is to respond to relevant and complex issues such as the epidemiological transition, ageing populations and care in remote areas, while also functioning as an engine for sustainable growth. The awards are intended for unpublished projects that represent a substantial improvement in health or in the care model.
Public institutions related to the health sector may apply for one of two categories:
- Best Public Health Innovation Procurement
- Best initiative for the promotion of Public Procurement of Innovation
The Amparo Poch Awards are endowed with an economic prize. The selected works will be presented on 25 October during the II National Congress of CPI in Health in Zaragoza, organized by the IACS Chair of Public Procurement of Innovation in Health. These works will also be published on the web pages of Public Procurement of Innovation of the Government of Aragon and the Observatory of Public Procurement.

EU Workshop: Cross-Border Innovation Procurement in Health, October 2020
The European Commission's Directorates-General for Research and Innovation and for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT) hosted a workshop on Innovation Procurement in the area of Health on 17 October in Brussels.
PIPPI project coordinator Martina Ahlberg, of Karolinska University Hospital, gave a presentation on the project to the approximately 100 attendees.
The workshop featured:
- Discussion about the ways that EU Innovation Procurement instruments in the area of health, such as Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) and Public Procurement of Innovative solutions (PPI), can help health service providers address these challenges.
- Presentation of new PCP & PPI funding opportunities for 2020.
- Discussion with stakeholders about the best practices of designing and implementing successful projects.
- Networking with the relevant and representative audience (procurers, potential suppliers, regions or umbrella organisations and regulators).
Presentation at Vitalis, May 2019
PiPPi, a unique European collaborative project to develop procurement of innovation, was presented by Karolinska University Hospital at Vitalis in Gothenburg
Vitalis, which is the Nordic region's leading eHealth meeting, gathered over 6,000 participants from municipalities, county councils, authorities, companies and academies in May 2019 to discuss the challenges and solutions of the future in health and social care.
"At Vitalis I got the opportunity to present the PiPPi collaboration where we work together with key partners such as academia, industry, users and legislators to be able to solve the day and tomorrow's challenges through innovative solutions," says Martina Ahlberg.
Martina Ahlberg is Karolinska University Hospital's representative and project manager at Innovationsplatsen, with responsibility for leading and running the PiPPi collaboration.
Martina is responsible for two major EU projects within Horizon2020: PiPPi and LIVE INCITE, and participates in NIGHTINGALE. All projects explore how procurement can be used as a strategic tool to drive development and establish fruitful innovation collaborations.
